Energy Efficiency Support
HighFlow Energy supports customers in improving energy efficiency and better understanding how electricity is used in the home.
Small changes to when and how you use electricity may help reduce grid imports and assist you in managing your energy costs.
Under HighFlow’s Bill-Free Allowance structure, reducing electricity imported from the grid may help you remain within your Annual Usage Allowance. Electricity imported above your allowance will be charged at the rates set out in your Energy Plan.
Understanding your electricity usage
Your electricity bill shows how much energy you import from the grid.
If you have solar and a battery system:
- Electricity used during daylight hours may be supplied directly from your solar system
- Your battery may store excess solar generation for later use
- Electricity imported from the grid counts toward your Usage Allowance
You can monitor your usage through the HighFlow customer portal to better understand your consumption patterns.
HighFlow does not guarantee that any specific usage pattern will result in a particular bill outcome. Your actual charges depend on your usage and the terms of your Energy Plan.
Practical ways to improve energy efficiency
You may consider the following general measures:
Everyday energy use
- Turn appliances off at the wall when not in use
- Use energy-efficient appliances (check the Energy Rating label)
- Set air conditioning between 24 – 26°C in summer and 18 – 20°C in winter
- Use cold water settings for washing where appropriate
- Improve insulation and seal gaps around doors and windows
Solar and battery optimisation
- Run high-energy appliances during daylight hours where possible
- Avoid unnecessary overnight grid usage
- Ensure your solar and battery system is maintained in accordance with manufacturer guidelines
- Maintain reliable internet connectivity to support system monitoring and VPP participation
Participation in the HighFlow Virtual Power Plant does not guarantee backup power during a network outage. Electricity supply is delivered through the local distribution network and may be interrupted due to events beyond our control.
